Private garden in Zealand day 10

We left the city behind for the day and drove out to Zealand, quickly getting into rolling wheatfields and smaller and smaller lanes to a private garden whose owners are so pleased to have us they've erected a brand new flag pole flying the Australian flag and set up morning tea in the back yard.

Ib and Lene are plant collectors and in their largeish back yard they have 400 different hostas including several mouse-ear hostas that were such a hit at Chelsea a few years ago / photo 1. There were many other desirable plants for us to drool over and I enjoyed the dahlias which are supported on green mesh / photo 2. David raved over the copper birch which I didn't even notice. He is having a lovely time as the acknowledged tree expert with everyone asking him tree names.

Danish Dream Cake was one of the delicious cakes for morning tea - not that any of us needs it /photo 4. This is the first garden to have tomatoes growing in a tiny greenhouse and chooks clucking around in large enclosed runs and it was with regret we got back on the bus.
