Lubeck Germany day 7

We arrived at this port around 6, still broad daylight and time for a walk around the Old Town before dinner. There was considerable bomb damage during WW2 so the architecture is a curious mix of old and new with the big red brick church having been rebuilt from scratch - why bother came to my mind: it's ugly. Photo 1 with Anne, Bill and David.

We met most of the tour in the marzipan shop which is this town's claim to fame - anything that can be moulded and colored is available.   A walk along the river past the drinkers and diners was nice  and then we photographed the town gates still standing from 1270. Photo 3.  Dinner was a gorgeous buffet and this excellent hotel has free wi-fi that allows my backlog of blogs to be published instantly  and emails to be read.

I'd been telling David about my German ancestors who changed their name from Muller with an umlaut to Miller and there was an email from my cousin Judith with their names, dates and addresses: Joseph and Elizabeth sailed from Hamburg and arrived in Australia in 1858. What a huge adventure that was compared to the luxury of mine...
