Is it a food tour or a garden tour? BOTH!
So I will include a photo of the breakfast buffet at the hotel where we arrived first this morning. Merryle took us off to find an ATM as Danish kroner are required here - about DKK5 to the AUD1. There was time for a bit of shopping after which I was thoroughly lost but you're never really lost with smartphone's little blue arrow telling you where you are. I had sore feet though even before we set off on the afternoon's excursion with Hans Christian Anderson.
He was born in 1805 so is remarkably well-preserved - strange about the American accent. What a larger than life character! We were all enthralled as we followed him around the city, listening to the story of his life and a welcome sit down in garden where he related the story of The Little Mermaid - non-Disney version. We did 3 cathedrals including where Princess Mary and Prince Frederick were married / photo 2. attracting attention as you might imagine when you see his photo; finishing up with a thimbleful of schnapps (breathtaking - literally.)
Copenhagen is the grip of a jazz festival so every square seems to be full of people listening to jazz and drinking beer in the full sun. What with that and the killer bicycles that have right of way and swoop around silently it's hard to get around on foot safely. Every Dane owns a bicycle and one third ride them every day: most don't own a car as tax on cars is 180% and petrol is very expensive.
